If you look out at the skyline of Greenville, South Carolina—recognized as one of the most successful urban renaissance stories in the world—you’ll see much of our handiwork. We’re proud to have played a role in the development of this city that continues to win accolade after accolade. Today, Harper is bringing that same powerful impact to other cities throughout the Carolinas.
The Nestle Foods Inc Gaffney Plant recently increased their manufacturing and needed upgrades and improvements made to their waste facilities. Harper General Contractors was selected and tasked with adding a new secondary clarifier, pump building, and floating aerators including all associated electrical, pumps and piping improvements. An existing storage lagoon was converted to the main aeration basin by adding four 75 horsepower floating aerators. A pump building was built to house two 20 horsepower centrifugal reactivated sludge pumps and two 7.5 horsepower waste activated sludge positive displacement pumps which gave Nestle better reliability and capacity. By adding a 45 foot diameter secondary clarifier as the final process the plant was able to improve the quality of the effluent. Harper was able to meet the schedule recommended by the owner and hit critical shutdown dates even during challenging weather events.
