If you look out at the skyline of Greenville, South Carolina—recognized as one of the most successful urban renaissance stories in the world—you’ll see much of our handiwork. We’re proud to have played a role in the development of this city that continues to win accolade after accolade. Today, Harper is bringing that same powerful impact to other cities throughout the Carolinas.
Harper partnered with Southern Mechanical Inc. (Mechanical and Plumbing) and Walker & Whiteside, Inc. (Electrical) to provide the MEP design and construction for the demolition, construction and refit of a 9,000 SF warehouse to a Animal Clinic and Adoption Services facility for the Greenville Humane Society. The facility possesses an extensive eight-zone climate control HVAC system, with separate positive services for two surgical suites, and quarantine room. AV systems are located throughout the facility and the auditorium is upfitted with the latest in Multi-Media technology.
Tremendous teamwork and careful attention were given throughout the design process that continued during the construction activities to enhance the care for the animals, to encourage the excitement of the volunteers and staff, and to welcome visitors as soon as they drive up. The team desired to design a contemporary yet classic structure that would attract not only future pet owners, but current ones as well. The large open space and bigger than life graphics provide an exciting place to find the perfect pet and allow the public to learn more about how to support the efforts of the Humane Society.
The project was completed within the scheduling requirements and within the overall construction budget figures. The Greenville Humane Society project received the 2011 AIA Greenville Design Merit Award.
