If you look out at the skyline of Greenville, South Carolina—recognized as one of the most successful urban renaissance stories in the world—you’ll see much of our handiwork. We’re proud to have played a role in the development of this city that continues to win accolade after accolade. Today, Harper is bringing that same powerful impact to other cities throughout the Carolinas.
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate project was a unique four-story renovation of the old County Library into an innovative, sustainable, interactive museum for children of all ages.
The 78,000 SF concrete structure was a true collaboration between the Owner, McMillan Pazdan Smith, Talbot & Associates, and Harper.
The project resulted in a one-of-a-kind building with over $8 MM in exhibits for its visitors, including a two-story climbing structure, flight simulator, water education park, and music rooms.
Harper was brought on at project conception to help navigate through the preconstruction and construction process. Our abilities to provide real time budgets, schedule information, and constructability reviews gave the Owner and Designers hard data for making decisions throughout the project. In addition to the high levels of finish, intense MEP coordination and heavy renovation, the museum achieved LEED® Silver Certification.
“As a President who has gone through the process of developing two children’s museums, I can attest to the difficulties and complexity of the project and the importance of the right general contractor. I can unequivocally recommend The Harper Corporation. Their professionalism, positive solution approach, and accuracy have been instrumental in getting us to our current position.”
