Harper was selected to serve as the General Contractor for the site work and construction services for Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher Middle School (Fisher), a state-of-the-art middle school that features a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) based curriculum. This structure was the first of its kind in Greenville County.

As the General Contractor for Fisher Middle School, Harper managed all trade professionals on-site and collaborated with both Greenville County Schools and the design team to construct the 179,000 SF, three-story middle school. Equipped with a net zero greenhouse facility, a wind harvest system for power, solar panels for hot water, and a low impact storm water collection system, the school serves up to 1,000 Greenville County students and is located near the CU-ICAR Millennium Campus in Greenville, SC.

One of the primary functions of a General Contractor is to maintain both the project budget and schedule through the construction process. During this project, Harper faced an inordinate amount of scheduling challenges resulting from rain and three severe winter weather events that produced -10-degree temperatures for extended durations. Overall, weather-generated delays cost the project team approximately six working weeks. However, Harper and worked hand-in-hand with multiple trade professionals to uncover creative solutions to ensure school opened on time. Through extra hours and a multi-phased construction approach by constructing multiple parts of the project at the same time, the school was ready to receive students for the start of the school year.
