Over the past seventy years, Harper has grown from a small office with just a handful of close-knit employees into a company spanning six offices with hundreds of teammates. We have grown departments and raised up superintendents, managers, vice presidents, and presidents. We have hired teams and secured millions of dollars’ worth of work in our own back yard. Our growth has pushed us higher and farther than we ever could have dreamed in that small office in 1950.
This growth has stretched and strengthened us in many ways. One significant way we have grown is by building a robust preconstruction process. Preconstruction Services at Harper includes Business Development, Marketing, Estimating, and engaging early with clients and Design Professionals. These teams invest energy and hours into building relationships that turn into projects. They create custom advertisements, campaigns, and marketing content focused on expanding the Harper name and brand. They analyze and strategize over feasibility studies, facility studies, bids, budgets, proposals, deliverables, and interviews to provide clients with relevant, critical information needed to select a partner for their project. All of these efforts, no matter how small or large, lead us to building trust with our clients and partners. As we have continued to grow and evolve, it’s with careful consideration we’ve determined the need for a dedicated construction expert to lead all preconstruction efforts.
Therefore, we are proud to announce that on March 1, 2021, Hootie Solesbee became our Vice President of Preconstruction Services, a new and welcomed role at Harper. He has also been invited to become a shareholder of Harper.
Hootie will lead our established, high-performing Preconstruction Teams as they continue to focus on winning work and building up Harper and our community. Harper’s dedication to excellence in all our preconstruction areas will be enhanced by Hootie’s passion for building relationships and the highest quality work. His background in operations gives him a unique perspective in preconstruction that will benefit our clients and teammates. Our teams will be strengthened by the extra support and guidance Hootie brings, but our clients will truly be the biggest benefactor in his new position.
Hootie is an excellent fit for this role. Leadership in the construction industry is a natural fit for him as his Grandfather founded JM Solesbee Construction in Spartanburg, SC in 1936. Hootie has continued to carry on the legacy of his Grandfather by investing the last fifteen years building with Harper. His career began at Harper after graduating from Clemson University in 2006 with a BS in Construction Science. He spent the following years working from Assistant Project Manager, advancing to Senior Project Manager, and eventually Office Director when he opened the Spartanburg office five years ago. The Spartanburg office has excelled under his direction and will continue to flourish.
We are excited about this transition, and we believe it positions Harper for continued growth and advancement for years to come.
