In the bustling hub of downtown Spartanburg, SC there is one structure you cannot miss- the Montgomery Building. For years the iconic building had shut its doors to the public, but after two years of collaborative efforts by BF Development, McMillan Pazdan Smith, and Harper The Montgomery Building is ready to rejoin the city. On March 21st it was honored with the Development Impact award. Harper General Contractors’ president, David Wise, represented the Harper team as he accepted the accolade for the historic re-construction of The Montgomery Building.
Built in the 1920s, the prominent building cultivated deep roots within Spartanburg. Alive with activity it housed entrepreneurs, manufactures, and private practices for decades. For a time, the city pondered demolition, but a strong team band together to bring the Montgomery back to life.
The 2019 Development Impact Winner has rejoined the public at a pivotal time for the hub city. A resurgence has been happening downtown, bringing new businesses and gathering communities. The Developmental Impact Award is presented to recent projects help transform and revitalize the built environment as well as the community and BF Development believes the restoration of the Montgomery will drive additional street activity downtown. New tenants of The Montgomery Building include Sidewall Pizza, Little River Coffee Roasting, offices, and high-end residential apartments.
Hootie Solesbee, Harper’s Spartanburg Office Director stated, “The Montgomery Building has furthered the revitalization of the City of Spartanburg.”
Thanks to the vision of BF Development, the talented architects at McMillan Pazden Smith were able to design updates that would maintain the building’s classic aesthetic integrity. A historic renovation is no small undertaking and Harper is proud to be a part of such an incredible project.
